THE CLIENT

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the world’s leading eye hospitals, providing expertise in clinical care, research and education. Virtus Security has been assisting the trust in installing and maintaining their security systems in its City Road site for the past three years.

THE REQUIREMENT

The existing system was of an age where the reliability and storage capability could have affected the performance and security of the site if an upgrade was not pursued. So whilst an update of the system was required, including upgrading cameras to the latest HD solution utilising IP data transfer, an audit was conducted to identify potential blind spots and provide more adequate coverage as part of Moorfields ongoing commitment to patient care through patient safety, experience and ‘zero tolerance’ attitude towards violence and abuse.

THE SOLUTION

Moorfields Eye Hospital at City Road has benefited from the system upgrade from analogue images to high definition using their existing IT infrastructure. The project was delivered as a phased implementation to allow for seamless migration from analogue to IP with minimal disruption to sites day to day operation from a security perspective. Using the Hikvision IVMS 4500 video management software the security team have access to all of the sites cameras at the touch of a button enabling them to react to incidents in a timely manner. Should they need to recover data they can rest assured that their data is available, as the system supplied offers Raid 5 technology coupled with CCTV industry specific hard drives. The system is also fully scalable and has the functionality to install numerous additional units should the requirement arise in the future.
